US-Based Expert Advocacy

The Partnership focuses on sustaining and guiding the US commitment to demand-driven agricultural investments in Africa through research and advocacy. With sustainable, Africa-led agricultural development now at the core of US government policy toward food security in Africa, the Partnership seeks to sustain support for global hunger and food security initiatives, monitor their implementation, and help address specific technical and logistical challenges that arise.

The Partnership is a nonpartisan organization whose recommendations are informed by knowledge from the field and objective, expert analysis. We engage the public, private, and civil sector from the US, Africa, and other donor countries in constructive dialogue to continually improve practices, coordinate policies, and better align donor efforts with African needs and initiatives. The active and systematic engagement of African leaders in policy discussions and Partnership activities has always been the cornerstone of our work. We are constantly working to expand our network of African experts and leaders representing businesses, civil society organizations, farmers' organizations, and governments.

Promoting Private Investment

The Partnership sees private investment as a vital tool to achieving sustained agricultural sector growth and development in Africa, so we focus on promoting policies, structures and systems that encourage business investment in African agriculture. At present, we are studying ways to shape public incentives and public-private partnerships in order to attract private sector investors, in accordance with African priorities. We also work with regional economic communities to promote regional markets, such as through policy harmonization and the development of transportation infrastructure.

Capacity Building

The Partnership, recognizing that Africa faces enormous capacity challenges, has long sought to link US and African partners and catalyze mutually beneficial projects. We are undertaking a range of place-based projects that bring together US and African partners to build African civil society organizations, tertiary education institutions, and the private sector (namely farmers' organizations).
