Partnership Board Vice Chair Abdoulaye Diop named WFP Country Director to Malawi

We are delighted to share the news that Ambassador Abdoulaye Diop, Vice Chair of the Partnership's Board of Directors, has been named World Food Programme Representative and Country Director to Malawi. He will take up his new post in Lilongwe in mid-February.

We offer our warm congratulations and look forward to continuing our strong collaboration with Ambassador Diop in his new position.

As diplomatic adviser to former Malian President Alpha Oumar Konaré from 2000-2003, Amb. Diop played a key role in the founding of the Partnership. During his tenure as Ambassador of Mali to the U.S. during 2003-09, Amb. Diop led efforts to engage the Washington-based African diplomatic corps on agriculture and food security issues. He founded the ambassadors' Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, and led annual delegations of African ambassadors to the World Food Prize in Des Moines.

He and other Washington-based African ambassadors, including Senegal, Mozambique, Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Mauritius, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Rwanda, Zambia, DRC and Angola have become frequent co-chairs and speakers at agriculture and food security discussions organized by the Partnership and many other groups.
