Michele McNabb was appointed President of the Partnership to Cut Hunger and Poverty in Africa in August 2011. Ms. McNabb is an international development specialist with more than 20 years of experience in food security, agriculture, and strategic communications in developing countries, including 14 years living in other countries and working in multi-cultural environments. She has worked directly for public and private sector organizations in Africa, Europe and the U.S. including international organizations, governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, private sector firms and universities.
Prior to joining the Partnership, Ms. McNabb served as Director of AED’s Food Security Initiative, where she led the development of a organizational food security strategy, tracked global food security policy developments, and served as founding member of a global Community of Practice on the linkages between agriculture and nutrition. Before joining AED, Ms. McNabb was an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, providing technical and management support to the Diplomacy and International Development team in the areas of food security, risk communication and disaster preparedness. Prior to her post at BAH, she served in numerous roles, including Director for Project Communications and Chief of Party and Senior Technical Advisor for the Mozambique Integrated Information Network for Decision-Making at Chemonics International; Regional Representative for East Africa and the Greater Horn of Africa at USAID FEWS NET; Food Security Policy Advisor for the Government of Mozambique’s Food Security Department; and an Economist at the International Resources Group. She has worked as an independent consultant for a variety of organizations, including the Internews Network, Freeplay Energy, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UN World Food Program, Chemonics International, the World Bank, the Oxford University Food Studies Group, the Cornell University Food and Nutrition Policy Program, and USAID.
Ms. McNabb is the author of several reports and book chapters on disaster response, risk management, and early warning systems. She holds an M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and B.A. from Butler University. She speaks advanced Portuguese and intermediate Spanish.
