Mary Chambliss
Mary Chambliss retired January 3, 2006, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). At that time she was a member of the Senior Executive Service, serving as Deputy Administrator for Export Credits in the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). In the past she has served as Acting Administrator of FAS, as well as General Sales Manager (an associate administrator) of the agency.
Ms. Chambliss’ primary responsibilities were management of USDA’s international food aid programs and export credit financing programs (similar to programs of EXIM). The total value of these programs averaged $4 -5 billion a fiscal year supporting exports of U.S. agricultural commodities to well over 50 developing countries.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Chambliss served as acting associate administrator of theUSDA’s Office of International Cooperation and Development, an arm of USDA that worked closely with the U.S. Agency for International Development and several international organizations. During the Carter Administration she was the deputy budget officer for the International Development Cooperation Agency. She began her career as an economist, with primary responsibility for research on countries in Africa.
Ms. Chambliss is a native of Roanoke, Virginia. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Roanoke College and a Master’s degree in Government from George Washington University.
